Spray-painting my Olympia SF typewriter

I spray-painted my Olympia SF (the spare cursive one) over Christmas weekend.  It was done on impulse, as a test, and it did not come out very good.  But it’s still passable for a first try, and now I know how to do a better job of it.  I may sand away the new paint and either repaint it myself or have an auto shop do it, but it’s still fun and festive for Christmas.  I may keep it like this for a while.  The red suits very well.

Spray-painting typewriters

I’ve had this very strong urge to spray-paint one of my typewriters (possibly the Lettera 32?) a funky color–either purple or bright red.  It has always been my dream to have a bright red typewriter, but I don’t much care for the Valentine and the Sears Courier models are always so hard to come by / come with problems, or are out of my price range.  Collecting typewriters on a budget = plenty of disappointment.

So this desire to paint does not seem to be mine alone.  I stumbled upon this gallery of painted typewriters.  So pretty!  I wonder what these owners used to paint their typewriters.  Maybe a certain type of paint works better?  I would mind decoupaging the typewriter, either.  Still, don’t know how, though!

New Blog Design

Changed the title image and color scheme of my blog just a little because I was getting tired of the blue.  This new sea-green/teal color is much brighter, I think.  The header image also features Kat, my favorite Olympia SF.

Thanks to Richard Polt for his Oliver Printype typewriter font, which I used for the new site heading.  I don’t know what I was thinking with that off-white glowing edge in the blue header image.  A design malfunction, to be sure.  But I’ve fixed it!  Typewriter font site heading looks pretty cool, I think!! I will cringe less when I preview my posts XD

Today something pretty sad happened in typewriter fandom (why yes, I am calling it a fandom!), though I don’t really want to talk about it here–or anywhere else, for that matter.  It’s one of those unfortunate mishaps that occur every once in a while in every fandom.  One just has to be prepared to face them stoically.

Two days till Christmas.  I am shivery with anticipation, despite having already gotten my gift.  It is this handsome rocking glider chair, which was too big to gift wrap and which my husband valiantly lugged from our parking lot all the way to my room for me.  How did I become so lucky?  It’s no Groma Kolibri, but it’s probably a bit more useful~

Happy Christmas, dear reader(s).  I daresay I may have one or two of you XD  Hope you have a great weekend~

The ubiquitous Hermes Rocket

Someone posted about the Hermes Baby portable the other day, and I was inspired to get out my Hermes Rocket and type a few lines.  It’s not as classy-looking as the Baby (I think), but it does have extremely cute coloring.

The apes have escaped!  Time to pay attention–this is my favorite bit!
