Lately this article about how feminism is illogical, unnecessary and evil has been floating around. There are so many things wrong with it that upon reading it I didn’t know whether I should laugh or possibly find a desk to bang my head (or the author’s head) against. Basically the article makes arguments and assumptions that are very narrow-minded and misogynistic and that sort of contradict his point that feminism is supposedly unnecessary.
I bring you quotes from this ridiculous article:
1. Feminism is the radical notion that women are men.Â
2. Men largely control all the money, politics, and prestige…because they have to, in order to impress women.” Women don’t need to control all these things, the article says, because they don’t have to–they control the men instead.Â
3. “…any reasonably attractive young woman exercises as much power over men as the male ruler of the world does over women.”
…and many more. It is difficult to find anything in this article that makes sense on a scientific or even logical level.
What’s even more unfortunate is that there are plenty who agree with this idiot that feminism is no longer necessary. In a world where glass ceilings are still a reality, and where men write articles with things like the above in them and get published, how can anyone say that feminism is not necessary? Have we truly achieved equality when we’re still stuck in stereotypes and roles that don’t fit all of us? What about all of us women who aren’t reasonably attractive or young? Do we not deserve to be on an equal level as men?
Feminism is seen in such a radical light sometimes. It’s laughed at and scoffed at, because people think that women already have so many rights, should they be complaining, why can’t they just be satisfied. People probably said those kinds of things to African-Americans before the Civil Rights Acts passed in the 1960s in the United States too. I’m not saying it’s the same thing, but I’m saying that people should never settle for semi-equality or almost!equality. If something can be improved upon, then we should try to improve it.
That said, the article is just plain bad. If I were a man I would be offended by the notion that I strive to be successful just to impress women.  I wish people would stop to consider all sides.
